Reporting to the Group Chief Information Officer, the Chief Information Officer, UK/Bermuda (CIO), is responsible for developing and executing the business technology transformation strategy to support our rapidly growing company.  The CIO drives engagement across multiple businesses and functional areas, including Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance, Finance, and others in support of business technology enablement. This is a highly visible role, requiring executive presence and communication skills while having deep technical expertise and a willingness to roll up his/her sleeves to get the job done.  Experience in the insurance industry is necessary, as is a wide range of experience in technology (e.g., application design and delivery, architecture/infrastructure, solution provider management, etc.).  The ideal candidate will have experience working with and leading development, implementation, maintenance, and user support.  Organization and program management skills are critical to this role, as well as planning, leading, organizing, and motivating various project teams (internal and external) to achieve business goals on time and budget.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Lead our business transformation by envisioning, driving, and delivering solutions that enable and support business strategies and plans.
  • Collaborate with our business partners on transformation initiatives; secure prioritization of capital investments, mitigate risks, and take full ownership for outcomes.
  • Assure the successful delivery of large, complex, mission-critical business and technology projects; ensure quality solutions are delivered on time, to specification, and within plan.
  • Lead, develop, and evolve the business technology roadmap; partner with businesses and vendors to ensure technology solutions support the rapid growth of the organization/
  • Manage vendor relationships with a focus on delivery/performance including leading large-scale RFP process from initial engagement to evaluation to selection.
  • Negotiate, evaluate, and structure service level agreements internally and with vendors; ensure high standards are set and achieved.
  • Build and retain an outstanding technology team through talent acquisition, mentoring, training, and career growth/development opportunities.
  • Manage the systems/technology budget, inclusive of staffing, BAU operations, professional services, licensing and fees, and capital projects.
  • Continuously and proactively engage with technology and business partners for transparency, collaboration, and optimal results; represent the Technology organization through professionalism, dedication, expertise, and delivery.
  • Advise leadership on emerging technologies, industry solutions, and digital trends; recommend solutions that best enable the business, from table stakes to market differentiating.
  • Partner with technology leaders across the global organization, including Security, Infrastructure, Architecture, and others to deliver on key initiatives.
  • Evaluate, define, and implement a target operating model that best supports our businesses, inclusive of BAU/maintenance support, new product implementations, synergies with business and functional areas within the organization, etc…
  • Define and uphold standards for BAU support to ensure seamless operation; develop and manage key performance indicators.
  • Build close relationships with all levels of the organization for open communication.

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in senior technology roles, with demonstrated ability to drive business transformation.
  • Track record of delivering transformative business technology solutions on time and on budget.
  • Experience in the insurance industry, preferably specialty/commercial.
  • Experience managing data security-related issues and regulations.
  • Demonstrated track record managing across the organization.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based applications and infrastructure and successful management of vendor relationships.
